The first is REMEMBERING THE BEST AND LETTING GO OF THE REST. This is a critical component to general well being and a sense of happiness on a daily basis. Most of us have sustained loss and experienced pain. Yes, we’ve been hurt. We’ve been short-changed by opportunities or other people. Sometimes we’ve been stepped upon, left or forgotten. If we spend our daily life focusing on these disappointments then we cannot release the positive energies we need to make the most of the present moment and to plan for the future.

ANOTHER week, another defeat for the Greens. Just a few weeks ago, the Green Party was briefing that it had finally achieved its hope of ending alleged U.S. ‘extraordinary rendition’ flights through Shannon.

Instead, it turns out that Obama is less concerned about the practice than imagined and that rendition is to remain U.S.

policy. In itself, the decision is hardly surprising, as rendition was, after all, an invention of the Clinton administration.

But it does leave the Greens with another embarrassment to explain to their members.

When you tally the setbacks the party has suffered, the surprising thing about their defections of late is not that a few have happened, but that there has not been a wholesale exodus..

These conventions have evolved along with the Internet, and users expect web pages to function in a certain way.

If there were only a few websites, designers could expect visitors to spend time learning how to navigate their sites. There are millions of pages on the web, however, and if visitors do not see what they have come to expect, they will find a site difficult to use and simply go somewhere else. Designers could lose significant amounts of traffic if they do not adhere to the design conventions that have already been imposed on websites. And no designer really wants to spend time on writing large help files or FAQs just to explain how to use a site. The web is a competitive place, and most of the time, visitors will simply leave a site rather than try to work through a bad design.

But humans have spent so many centuries reducing their need to walk, that it’s now become necessary to tell people they have to “return to life walking”.

The industrial age, the automobiles we have, the tele-commuting we now do, the dial-a-life we now ring for everything – and the zillion other similar “conveniences” we have added to our lives … these have all now become the collective cause for the greatest “inconvenience” we can have hoped to have – disease!

Every passing year, technology encourages us in the life of a “Sit Where You Are And Be Served, Oh Master!” kind of existence we have built for ourselves.

Fine. Let’s look at the bright side. We no longer have to walk for the conduct of our lives. We have to now walk for life!

I would like to stress that you should make walking a part of how you live every day, not make it an exercise project.

Enjoy todays respite, such as it is, from the summer swelter.

Nature is about to hit us with a new and even steamier dose of summer. It could be some of the hottest weather locally in a decade.

Today should be a bit cooler and drier as high pressure builds into the area from the Great Lakes. But conditions will shift swiftly.

Near record heat is expected over central, southern and eastern Virginia, interior northeast North Carolina and the lower Maryland Eastern Shore, Monday through Wednesday, Patrick Maloit, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Wakefield, warned Saturday.

Much of the nation is sweating through a boiling summer, and a surge of hot and humid air over the central U.S. on Saturday is expected to begin building into the mid-Atlantic region Monday.

As the week starts, temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 90s to near 100 over central, southern and eastern Virginia and interior northeast North Carolina. Along the coast, highs should be in the lower 90s
